TORONTO, ON – The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Canada, which began as refugees seeking refuge from persecution, is not only thriving but also charting an ambitious path for the future. This journey is grounded in deep gratitude for the peace and freedom they have found in their adopted homeland. A recent national gathering in Toronto highlighted their remarkable growth and revealed a bold vision: to share the peaceful teachings of Islam with 12 million Canadians over the next three years.
The 47th Jalsa Salana Canada, the community’s annual convention, was filled with messages of blessings, responsibility, and a steadfast commitment to Canada. A prominent address highlighted the significance of migration, quoting the Holy Quran: “And whoever emigrates from his country in the cause of Allah will find in the earth an abundant place of refuge and plentifulness.”

“By the sheer grace of Allah, Canada has granted us freedom,” a speaker passionately declared. “Freedom not only to believe in and practice our faith as we wish, but also to share it… anywhere in this blessed land.”
The journey of the community since its official registration in Canada in 1966 has been marked by significant growth. Starting with just two Ahmadi Muslims in 1920, the number of active members has increased to over 40,000, with some estimates suggesting there are as many as 100,000 across Canada. They have established a presence in all 10 provinces and the Northwest Territories. This expansion is evident in their infrastructure, which includes over 20 purpose-built mosques and numerous prayer centers and guest houses throughout the nation. Economically, many members who initially arrived with little have since built profitable businesses and secured lucrative jobs, reflecting the blessings they attribute to their migration.

This prosperity is not viewed as an end in itself but rather as a means to achieve a higher purpose: conveying the true message of Islam. The community’s spiritual leader, the Khalifatul Masih, has emphasized the urgency of this mission. One speaker shared a powerful directive: “It all depends on your mindset. Don’t claim that we lack resources; it is your duty to work to the fullest with what you have and explore new avenues.”
Inspired by this guidance, the Canadian Jamaat has set an ambitious goal: to share the message of Islam Ahmadiyya with 30% of Canadians, which amounts to an incredible 12 million people, over the next three years. This initiative is not merely about numbers; it aims to showcase the beauty of Islam through personal example. “We demonstrate the teachings of Islam through the excellence of our character,” the speaker emphasized.
The community is deeply engaged in internal reflection, understanding that true success goes beyond mere numbers and material possessions. In addressing challenges such as rising divorce rates and the integrity of financial earnings, the leadership calls for a “true transformation” that must begin within each home. “Numbers may impress the world, but it is character that Allah is truly pleased with,” was a poignant reminder expressed at the gathering. This focus on individual moral upliftment is viewed as the foundation of their collective mission.
The Canadian Ahmadiyya community plays an important role in global outreach beyond Canada’s borders. Tasked by its central headquarters, it is responsible for establishing new communities across the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. So far, new Jamaats have formed in nine countries. Some of these Jamaats are now mature enough to operate independently under central guidance, while others continue to receive support from the Canadian branch.
As the community anticipates its 50th Jalsa Salana, the focus is not just on survival or numerical growth. Instead, it serves as a call for significant transformation: “May Allah grant that when we gather for the 50th Jalsa Salana, we present ourselves not merely as a community that has survived 50 years in Canada, but as one that has demonstrated its value through transformed lives and strengthened families. We aim to show real progress in our character, in our homes, and in our service to this nation.”
Under divinely guided leadership, Canada’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Community inspires its members to embody Islam’s true essence and contribute meaningfully to Canadian society and beyond.
